In addition, orchids should not sit in water. Pots left in water will not permit air flow to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/07\/healthy-orchid-roots\/\">orchid roots<\/a>. This can kill plants.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/care\/details\/humidity.html\"><strong>Humidity<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; Unlike <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/24\/ouch\/\">cacti and succulents<\/a>, all orchids need moisture in the air. Dry air quickly wilts flowers, causes plants to decline, and attracts pests. Popular orchids like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/identify\/orchids\/phalaenopsis.html\">Phals<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/identify\/orchids\/dendrobium.html\">Dendrobiums<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/06\/odonts\/\">Odonts<\/a> fall into this category.
