{"id":22366,"date":"2015-07-05T05:00:03","date_gmt":"2015-07-05T13:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/?p=22366"},"modified":"2019-12-17T17:41:57","modified_gmt":"2019-12-18T01:41:57","slug":"orchids-at-kew-gardens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/05\/orchids-at-kew-gardens\/","title":{"rendered":"Orchids at Kew Gardens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kew.org\/visit-kew-gardens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kew Gardens<\/a> is the heart of the botanical world.\u00a0 It&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kew_Gardens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one of the oldest, largest, and most important botanical gardens<\/a>, and it maintains the largest collection of living plants on earth. <a href=\"http:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/1084\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kew is a UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/a>, and it&#8217;s also one of London&#8217;s top tourist attractions. And, of course, it has lots of great orchids. Dave and I visited Kew Gardens at the end of June, and were astonished by all its botanical beauty. I&#8217;m just starting to sort through our photos. The Princess of Wales Conservatory has zones for both tropical and temperate growers. It maintains one of the largest botanical libraries, and one of the largest collections of dried plant specimens, in the world. Continuing an effort begun by Charles Darwin to\u00a0register all plant names, Kew publishes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipni.org\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the International Plant Names Index<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theplantlist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Plant List<\/a>.
