coast is already a beautiful place, but winter orchid blooms make it even better. The plants in these photos are reliable performers in our garden every year. We grow lots of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/identify\/orchids\/cymbidium.html\">Cymbidiums<\/a>, which do very well in our climate. And so do some other orchid varieties, like cool-growing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2016\/05\/23\/purple-zygo-orchids\/\">Zygos<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/identify\/orchids\/epidendrum.html\">Epidendrums<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/identify\/orchids\/cattleya.html\">Laelias<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2014\/11\/26\/giant-hyacinth-orchid\/\">Giant Hyacinth Orchid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/care\/details\/outdoor.html\">outdoor plants<\/a>, some of the blooms are battered by the elements. Many of these flowers last for months, even with strong ocean storms and winds. This year, we&#8217;ve had a few storms, but otherwise have been unusually warm, dry, and windy. It&#8217;s been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/care\/details\/humidity.html\">those drying winds which the orchids don&#8217;t like<\/a>, and which damage the flowers. With the forecast predicting more warm days approaching 80\u00b0F (27\u00b0C,) I&#8217;m <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/care\/details\/water.html\">watering<\/a> the orchids more this winter than I did during our cool, foggy summer. That backwards schedule is likely another sign of climate change.
