Orchids near the Arctic Circle? In fact, orchids live just about everywhere on earth, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iceland-nh.net\/plants\/data\/Coeloglossum-viride\/coeloglossum_viride.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including Iceland, which is home to seven native species<\/a>. Two of them are shown here. The Heath Spotted Orchid has purple and white flowers, and the Vanilla Scented Bog Orchid has yellow flowers. The first row of photos shows one plant, and the second row shows another. Look closely to see how the purple spots and patches differ between the two, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dactylorhiza_maculata\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which happens a lot in this variable species<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The third row of photos below shows <a href=\"http:\/\/goorchids.northamericanorchidcenter.org\/species\/pseudorchis\/albida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Vanilla Scented Bog Orchid<\/a>.\u00a0 This species is native to eastern Canada, Greenland, Iceland, northern Europe, and northern Russia. It&#8217;s reputed to have a sweet scent, and it also grows in cool, damp areas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Pseudorchis_albida_subsp_straminea_1_800px.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-30635 All of these remarkable plants are the tough polar cousins of the tropical ones we know better.
