Last month he visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dehortus.nl\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hortus Botanicus<\/a>, which is Amsterdam&#8217;s Botanical Garden. It&#8217;s one of the oldest in the world, dating to 1638. There weren&#8217;t many orchids on display, but in the midst of a Northern European winter, he still managed to find an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/identify\/orchids\/oncidium.html\">Oncidium<\/a> in bloom. And of course, there were plenty of other wonders to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Hortus_Botanicus_Amsterdam_3_800px.jpg\"><img botanical gardens, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/17\/orchids-at-chelsea-physic-garden\/\">Chelsea Physic Garden<\/a> in London, Amsterdam&#8217;s was originally founded to grow medicinal plants. Only later did they become homes for exotic species from Europe&#8217;s colonial exploits.
