In <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Western_Ghats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Western Ghats<\/a>, tropical mountain forests hold almost a third of India&#8217;s flora and fauna species. That includes hundreds of native orchid varieties, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/identify\/orchids\/dendrobium.html\">Dendrobiums<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2019\/05\/27\/bulbophyllums-are-some-of-the-weirdest-orchids\/\">Bulbophyllums<\/a>, Habenarias, and Aerides. <a href=\"https:\/\/round.glass\/sustain\/conservation\/orchids-western-ghats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">As deforestation threatens these species, Indian conservationists have enlisted local students to rescue orchids.<\/a> Within the region&#8217;s tea, coffee, and cardamom estates, they find orchids which have fallen out of trees due to winds or heavy rainstorms. They pick up the orchids, identify them, replant them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2010\/02\/17\/up-a-tree-2\/\">on trees<\/a>, and have a 90% success rate after 16 months. In the process, the students not only save plants, but also learn about the biodiversity living around them.
