Finding new orchids isn&#8217;t unusual, but it&#8217;s astounding that researchers found so many in a small area during a single 4-hour expedition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldatlas.com\/webimage\/countrys\/namerica\/camerica\/costarica\/crfacts.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Costa Rica<\/a> is home to over 1300 orchid species. For comparison, the country is smaller than West Virginia, which has 35 native orchid species. Costa Rica&#8217;s national flower is a variety of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/identify\/orchids\/cattleya.html\">Cattleya<\/a>, the beautiful purple <a href=\"http:\/\/national-flowers.info\/2010\/07\/26\/national-flower-costa-rica-guaria-morada\/\" target=\"_blank\">Guaria morada<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Costa Rica has added even more orchids to its remarkable biodiversity.
