Fortunately, that translates to the very pronounceable &#8220;Charming Lady Slipper.&#8221; The Latin for &#8220;Stunning Lady Slipper&#8221; might fit better, but perhaps that name was already taken. Indeed, &#8220;charming&#8221; seems an understatement for this wonderful species from the southern slopes of the Himalayas. That&#8217;s not inspired by the fascinating veins on the flower pouch, but by the blue and green patterning on the leaves. In the wild, it grows as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/11\/terrestrial-orchids\/\">terrestrial<\/a>, and enjoys the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britannica.com\/EBchecked\/topic\/390302\/monsoon\" target=\"_blank\">monsoon rains<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/weather\/hi\/news\/newsid_9501000\/9501568.stm\" target=\"_blank\">which have just started in southern India<\/a>. In cultivation, this orchid requires daily <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/care\/details\/water.html\">watering<\/a>, and can handle <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/care\/details\/temperature.html\">cooler temps<\/a> during <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboutorchids.com\/care\/details\/dormancy.html\">winter dormancy<\/a>. Several color variations exist.
