Hanging Gardens Open Greenhouse
The San Francisco Orchid Society invites you to Hanging Gardens Open Greenhouse this weekend. The sale runs Saturday & Sunday, October 15-16 at Shelldance Nursery off Highway 1 in Pacifica, California. There will be a special repotting clinic on Saturday only, 11 am – 2 pm, with expert demonstrations on potting and mounting orchids. Please note that the repotting clinic is a potluck and also BYOO – bring your own orchid. Fitting for Pacifica’s foggy climate, many intermediate and cool growers, like Cymbidiums, Masdevallias, Odonts, and Draculas, will be for sale.

We were all geared up to drive up from Los Angeles to the Bay Area in order to attend the Hanging Gardens Open Greenhouse sponsored by the San Francisco Orchid Society but never made it past Santa Barbara because my car conked out.
So, we did the next best thing while my care was being worked on — we visited the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate. This was not our first visit to this fabulous place but never fails to impress.

Wow Hanna, that’s hardcore to drive up from LA to SF for an open greenhouse! At least Santa Barbara scratched that itch. I’ve never been to that orchid estate but I’ve heard it’s amazing.
