I apologize if I am posting in the wrong location, but I cannot find anywhere else to post about a question I have regarding Orchid care as all comments are closed. Again I apologize if I’m In wrong place but this site seems to be filled with good info so I want to ask here. I am getting conflicting information about whether to prune my Orchid or not. This is a common grocery store Orchid. It has two stems and I keep it in indirect light. It is sold by “just add ice”. The flowers have all bloomed and mostly fell off and the stems and leaves all look healthy. Do I prune down to the nodes or not. “Just add ice” tells me too but I feel they might be trying to shorten the life so I buy more. They also tell me to cut one short and one long. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your question – you’re posting in exactly the right place. You’re right that trying to instantly rebloom your orchid can weaken it. Here’s more info about forcing Moth Orchids to rebloom. To keep your orchid long-term, instead prune the flower spike down to the base. Let the plant go through its natural growth cycles, and it will rebloom when it’s ready. Also read about better ways to water an orchid without ice cubes.
